THE JOHN SHOWS ASSOCIATION

NO 10           NEWSLETTER      July 22, 2000

«

The John Shows Association will Meet the Second Saturday of  August at the
Moselle Community
Center.
A Map  is enclosed with  this newsletter, the meeting will start at 10:30 AM.

Greetings Cousins, Its that time of year again, and I am looking forward to seeing all of you there, bring your favorite covered dish and join in the fun and feasting. Last year we had a good gathering where lots of information was swapped and we enjoyed meeting new cousins. Some had brought pictures and memorabilia of their families. I had packets that were prepared by Leland and Mary Shows of Clarkston WA. for those that wanted. Leland and Mary have done quite a bit of research into the Shows family and will share with anyone that is interested. Their address is:

Leland and Mary Shows
838 Riverview Blvd.
1-mshows@clarkston.com
Clarkston, WA. 99403-2655

Tresa Tatyrek is another devoted researcher that has an amazing data base. She was at the meeting last year, along with her computer and scanner. She was able to fill in gaps for some that had run into a brick wall. She informed me that she has been able to make the connection to the Shows of Alabama.

Check it out!

We are now online! Our webpage address is:

http://members.home.net/tresa/JohnShowsAssociation/index.htm

Tresa did this in response to a discussion we had at the meeting last year. I will ask her to explain to us at the meeting what wonderful things we will get from this.

Tresa has put the Shows Family tree on line as well as pictures. The URL to see her work is http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tresa.

She will be at the Association Meeting this year with her computer and a scanner. She is requesting that attendees bring old family photos, documents and bibles for scanning. These will be placed on several CDS for preservation of all the images. She already has several CDS of family photos, documents, bible records, and tombstones.

We plan to have a copying machine available for your use at the meeting.  Feel free to use this machine  provided by your Association.

I am going to try something new this year.  I will attempt to charge into the electronic age by sending this newsletter to all whose e-mail address that I have.  It will be a new thing for me, although I have done some tinkering with the Internet, I have never tried anything like this.  I will mail to those, whose letter  comes back to me undelivered.  If you have an e-mail address I encourage you to send it to me at shows2@ebicom.net.  If I accomplish this then there will be a saving of postage, and you will receive the newsletter the same day it was mailed.  As always postage for the mailing of the newsletter is by voluntary contribution.  This newsletter will be posted on the John Shows Assoc. Web site and by Ronald Shows on a web page he has access to that is used by Shows’ from Ala. Fl, and Ga., and possibly  others that I don’t even know of.  Also I have asked them to post a picture taken at the last meeting.  I will have a copy of my mailing list at the meeting for anyone to copy that wishes.

The current marker that the Association is accepting money to place is for “John Jackson Shows”, the second son of John and Mary Nancy Robertson Shows.  Please send your contributions to the Treasurer: Ann Shows, 1074 Three Mile Stretch, Ellisville, MS 39437.

OBITS: James Crawford Shows, Jr. (Jim) passed away January 21st. 2000.  He was the older son of James Crawford Shows and Ida Lucille Davis Shows (Both deceased).  He was born September 7th, 1921.  He and Frances Ross Shows(widow) were able to join us last year at the Assoc. meeting and we were very glad to have met  him.
