Excellent job, I have been researching the Keen-Langston line and further back, the Shows line, Mary Nancy Shows would be my great great great grandmother, her daughter, Missouria Jane Riley was my great great, and her son Abraham Columbus was my great grandfather. Who is your oldest documented ancestor? Noah Hampton Kuykendall
Comments:
Noah is my oldest ancestor that is documented in Texas, ..particularly in Erath County. Stevenville was a meeting place for my Texas forebears. My family originated in Albany New Amsterdam (NY) and the first born was baptised in Kingston, New Amsterdam in 1638. The name Kuykendall was first used in the Old Kirk at Kingston. It is a toponym depicting where the family resided. Koick-n-dal) which means in Dutch, " looking over the valley", became our family name at that time. The British required that last names be used in transfer of property. Previously our poor family had no sir-name. Prior to the Civil War the Kuykendall family from whence I derived moved to Texas in response to the advertisement of Free Land allotted by Sam Houston and Austen.

I was looking for information on my great grandmother, Bertha Elvira Shows, and came across your web site. It is a very good one. Bertha's father was Thedrick Tobias Shows and her mother was Eleanor Mildred Wigley. Bertha also had a twin brother named Berthel, I believe and then it goes to Adam Shows, John Shows, John Adams Shows, John Conrad Schauss, Johann Adam Schauss and Johann Adam Schauss. So far, this part of my lineage is the most in depth. Whoever, studied this line must have been very good to trace it back that far. My great grandmother married Cornelius Fred Castellow and I believe one of her brothers, Ocy Pressley married one of his sisters as well. So I gather that both families lived near each other in Lavaca County, Texas. Great site

Who is your oldest documented ancestor? Henry Mitchell
Comments:
I have run into a line of Mitchells that I didn't expect to find, my Mom was a Mitchell, Eleanor Elizabeth Mitchell born in Birmingham, Ala. on 1/1/1919 to John Cuyler Mitchell and Sammie Lou Borders. John Cuyler was born in Mumford, Alabama and Sammie Lou in Troup County Georgia. My paternal grandfather was Patrick Henry Whitley and my grandmother was Mittle Falls Newton.
It is through my search on Grandmother's Newtons that I came across the Mitchells that I didn't expect to find. John Newton born circa 1749 in Lunenburg County Virginia and married first Mary Mitchell and second Naomi Mitchell. Both Mitchell girls are reported as daughters of Isaac Mitchell and Sarah Satterwhite, Isaac was born in 1730 in Granville, NC and Sarah in (no county that I can find, so far) NC. I found this information in the Southern Genealogies but I don't have the entire title or volume number at hand. I have a gut feeling the those Mitchells might at some point be kin to Mother's Mitchells. My gggrandfather, Thomas B. Mitchell moved to Georgia from Union County, SC as did his wife, Louisa Eliza Bevill but their third child Thomas was born in Tennessee in 1849 and it seems they stayed only a short time in TN. Their next child, William H. Mitchell was born in Whitfield County, Dalton District, Georgia in 1851 and the remaining children were all born in Georgia.

I can't pinpoint why I think these two Mitchell lines are related but I'm still a Mitchell or both sides of my family. I've only been actively doing this research for a couple of years and I have had some wonderful help along the way. I hope to start a Family Web-Page fairly soon, meaning when I figure out HOW. At any rate, not asking will never get one many answers so I thought a contact was in order. Many thanks, Jim Whitley

I have found several old photos of Newsom Jr and siblings, as well as tons of his time in the war. Of course most of them do not identify anyone. I'm making educated guesses based on family resemblence. Anyway, is there anyone interested in copies of them? Over the next year (I'm being realistic here because in a perfect world it would be a couple of weeks but I have a 6 year old and school is beginning in two weeks, so it'll be a year) I'm going to scan all of these pictures, so I can either mail a copy of the disk when I'm done, or attach it as a file (if I develop the computer savy to do so) . Also I need help identifying people. I can pick out Newsom Jr, but his sisters and brothers get kind of iffy. Plus I think I have photos of family from Norval's time god help me there.

Hello,

all my life I wanted to explore our family tree. I never had a time to do so, but I put several questions to my father and he told me that all he knows is that his grand - father had six brothers who had moved to Chicago (btw: from Czech Republic, Europe) after 1st World War. That could be the root. When I saw your photos so most of names soud to me like czechs. ...

Enjoyed the web site. My connection to the Shauss/Shouse family comes from the Eldest daughter of John A. Bone and Margaret Hill, Elizabeth Bone who married Heinrich/Henry Shauss. My family line runs through the second child of John A. and Margaret Bone, William Bone and Margaret Lansden. Their 5th son James and his unknown wife gave birth to Jane Catherine Bone who married Adam Columbus King and gave birth to John Bone King and he married Antoinette McCrary. Their Daughter Anna Clara married Henry Marvin Simpson and they had my mother Anna Louise who married my father Otha Haywood Shannon. I have now been working on my ancestors and their descendants for the past three years and have just come to the Shouse family. Thanks for the information.

Who is your oldest documented ancestor? ?
Comments:
I was checking Roots Web and saw your information acout Margaret Melton, wife of John H Melton. Margaret's mother was Elizabeth Yates, Jane Cannon was her step mother. Henry Waller married Elizabeth Yates 1/11/1830. I don't know why or when she died, her line goes back to the 15oo's on roots web. Henry Waller married Jane Cannon 9/28/1843 they didn't have any children. Henry is my GGG Grandfather. Margaret had 4 brothers and one sister. James H, Clifford L, Aaron M, Archabald N, And Sarah. I believe that Henry Waller was the son of Aaron Waller born ABT.1788 in Tn. and the grandson of Thomas Waller and Jenny Carter but I can't prove it. I hope this information helps you. Bill

Who is your oldest documented ancestor? Chas. Frank. Dunham b. 1867
Comments:
The SHGS (Sweet Home Genealogical Society) in Sweet Home, Oregon has recently received the task of locating relatives of the Chas. Frank Dunham family - especially descendents of Lacy May (Dunham) McKean, Claude and Bertha Dunham, James Fine Dunham. Someone abandoned 5 photo albums dating from the late 1880's up thru 1982. I have ID'd one Michael Dunham born ca 1950's and his is a sad story. If you can help me locate living descendents of the Dunham family, I would be most appreciative. The older photos are priceless and our local museum would like to display them....however, we can scan them and provide copies to all relatives who request them. Let me know if you and I can find the Dunhams now out there somewhere.

Most grateful,
Sharon Leader, Secretary
Sweet Home Genealogical Society
